Black Spruce from Canada

Let's take a look at the story behind Black Spruce essential oil.

Black Spruce grows widely across Alaska and parts of Canada, where it thrives in cold climates and rugged landscapes. Because these trees grow so abundantly, large amounts are harvested for the paper industry. The trunks are used, but traditionally, the branches and needles were left behind as waste.

That's where things changed.

dōTERRA works with sourcing partners to make use of these leftover parts of the tree. The branches and needles, which contain the aromatic essential oil, are carefully collected and steam distilled.

Even the distillation process is designed with sustainability in mind. The remaining plant material is used by a local power plant, creating steam that helps power further distillation. This closed-loop system reduces waste and supports multiple industries at the same time.

It's a great example of how thoughtful sourcing can turn what used to be discarded into something valuable.

If you haven't experienced Black Spruce, it's worth exploring.
